Civil Engineering

Sof Story Seismic Retrofit
According to the USGS there is a 67% probability that a magnitude 6.7 earthquake will occur in the next 25 year in the Los Angeles Area. A significant earthquake will not only affect life safety, but also loss of shelter and significant economic loss. In order to reduce the risk of devastation due to a large earthquake, several cities in California have decided to take a proactive approach by addressing the seismic deficiencies in the existing building stock. As such, ordinances have been implemented as a mandatory seismic ordinance to reduce the risk of these existing potentially vulnerable buildings. The ordinance is commonly known as Soft Story Seismic Retrofit.
